Show and Tell

Show and Tell was a great comic that showed the relationship between words and pictures. As I was reading, the boy in the comic pointed out many interesting points about words and pictures, and how they related. He was explaining that as times have changed so has our outlook on words and pictures. Back when no words were used, pictures were the words. You could easily tell what was trying to be said through the pictures.

When the boy was explaining the picture and word pyramid, he made a good point. He stated that pictures were going to continue to move up. Words were just words, and without pictures, they were boring. Pictures can always express words. It would be very difficult to turn words into a picture. With the right amount of pictures and words, the artwork could be amazing.

When the boy broke down the categories between words and pictures, comics made more sense to me. Comics used many different strategies to express what they wanted to say. From facial expressions to montages of words, the way you present something, may change its meaning. You must equally balance out words and pictures so there is not too much of one.

Comics have been around for a long time, and will never die. When pictures and words are used together correctly, you may have a masterpiece. Not only can comics use pictures and words, but almost any book. Pictures can also say 100 words.

The Death of a Grave-Digger

The painting “The Death of the Grave-Digger is a very symbolic painting. Carlos Schwabe included many small features in the painting that symbolize many things, and some people do not catch them. You must thoroughly analyze the painting to truly understand its meaning. Its true meaning is hidden within.

When you first look at The Death of the Grave-Digger the first thing that catches most people’s attention is the Angel of Death. She is the main image of the painting. She mainly stands out because her clothing is very dark compared to the snow in the background. Her dark wings are surrounding the man, as if she were taking care of him. She appears as if she is about to take his soul and lay it to rest. She may appear as an evil figure, but is doing no harm.

The grass in The Death of the Grave-Digger appears to either be just growing, or just dying. The grass may symbolize the death of one life, and the beginning of a new one. The grave-digger lost his life, but the angel is there so he may begin a new one. In the background, the sun appears to either be setting or rising. That may also be a symbol of a new life. The sun always seems to be a symbol of life.

When you look at the image, you can easily tell what the yonic, and phallic. The phallic symbol is the grave-diggers shovel. It appears that the man had dug his own grave. He may have known that his life was coming to an end soon. The yonic symbol is the hole he dug. When I looked at the image, I noticed that the phallic symbol was in the yonic symbol. These hidden images make this artwork a masterpiece.

Mona Lisa

The Mona Lisa is arguably the most famous painting in the world. From its texture to its essence, it is a masterpiece. The French government currently owns it, and they have no intentions on giving it to anyone else. It resides at the Musee du Louvre, in Paris. As soon as you stare at her, you feel as if you had a conversation with her through her eyes. The Mona Lisa is a one of a kind work of art, made from a one of a kind person.

Leonardo Di Vinci created some of the best paintings of all time. Some other masterpieces include Madonna of the Rocks, and The Last Supper. He is considered one of the best artists of all time. Da Vinci was far more than just an artist. He had one of the best scientific minds of his generation. He studied in the fields of astronomy, anatomy, engineering, geography, and architecture as well. He was truly a one-of-a-kind man.

When I took my first glance at the Mona Lisa the first thing I noticed was how realistic it appeared. Leonardo Da Vinci made it one of the most realistic oil paintings of all time. Da Vinci made the woman’s cloths and hair very dark, so her face would light up. Her beautiful face makes her eyes so magnificent. It seems as if she is staring straight into your soul. Her elusive smile also catches people’s attention. With a mysterious smile, and beautiful eyes, she is truly life like.

The New Halloween

Goblins, ghosts, witches, and random creatures roam the earth one day, every year. The creatures are all out for one mission: to get as much candy as possible. As you can guess, I am talking about Halloween. Halloween, to children, is considered one of the best holidays of the year. On the other hand, parents despise Halloween for the fact that there may be occasional dentist trips for their children’s teeth. Even thought they know this may happen, they make sure their kids are in attendance every year. Halloween is a once a year opportunity, that most people tend to take advantage of.

In Van Wert, Ohio, Halloween is a huge event. Kids from all over the area go to the fair grounds to safely trick-or-treat, and get judged on their costumes. Every year the festival is larger and the costumes get crazier. When I was six my mother decided to enter me into the costume contest. As I was a fish, I considered myself the clear favorite. What could get any cuter than a six year old boy dressed up in a fish costume? Apparently, the judge’s thought a six-year-old girl dressed up as a puppy dog was cuter. I did not that second place to well. As soon as I herd that I was second I began to cry on stage, in front of everyone. Tears rolled down my face like a rainstorm until my mom finally came up on stage and hugged me. I knew as long as my mom was proud of me, that’s all that mattered.

Today, Halloween is so much different in my eyes. I no longer go trick or treating. It is a thing that only stays with you until you become a teenager. After that, you just are a little too old for it. Now, Halloween is just an excuse for you to get black out drunk with your friends. It is also an excuse for girls to dress as slutty as possible. Halloween seems to be a contest between girls to see which girl can wear as little of cloths as possible. No guy seems to discourage this at all. My Halloweens from now on will never be the same.

Oseyland

Oseyland is not your typical vacation spot. You may consider it one of the most unique, or messed up places on the Earth. Some people may love Oseyland, while others hate it with a passion. It’s a place where you can do anything you please as long as you’re not hurting or bothering others. This rule goes for literally everything

In its beginning Oseyland was mainly all flatlands. Most people considered it a huge swamp. It was a great place to grow food. Throughout the years the Earth changed and now, the lands are beginning to become very dry. The summers are very warm and humid, while the winters are blistering cold.

The economy in Oseyland is on its downfall. People are losing jobs left and right. Residents try to make money on their own. Growing and producing drugs are a very popular way of obtaining money. Marijuana fields are cover many people’s yards. Since jobs are scarce many choose to grow in order to make money. Stealing someone else’s plants is one of the worst crimes a person could commit. Some people consider that stealing their money. The punishment of this crime varies on the amount of plants you steal. Stealing other drugs like coke and heroine are also extreme crimes. Law enforcers don’t mind people doing drugs, as long as you are not abusing them.

The government is varied laid back in Oseyland. Unicorns make all of the decisions. They travel throughout time to see into the future. Once they know what the future is like, they teleport back to guide everyone in the correct directions. Since being under the control of unicorns, everything is more peaceful. They have almost made people become more peaceful with each other. The fate of Oseyland is under unicorn control.

Birthday Tailgating

A birthday party is supposed to be a time of celebration and gathering. Family members tend to give presents to their loved ones, to show that they are appreciated. I cannot quite say that about my family. Showing up drunk, hung over, or completely stoned is nothing new. Our birthday parties are more like tailgating parties. Everyone drank beer, was loud as possible and never paying attention to the birthday person. Football, Hockey, or Baseball grabs all of their attention. Sometimes it is as if they are actually in attendance at the game. My twelve-year-old party was no exception.
As usual, the whole family showed up. Everyone felt as if they had to be in attendance. They always knew that Grandpa would attempt to make a speech. I say this because he would always get up and fall back over. The alcohol takes control of his body pretty easily. His goal every year was to keep up with the “young guns” to prove he was still young. His speech that year will never be forgotten.
“Ok you guys, I just wanna let cha,” and then he fell backwards. It seems like every year, that’s as far as he gets. Everybody got a huge laugh out of him.
After grandpa gave his famous speech, it was time to cut the cake. Mother always insisted on cutting the cake. She always had to be the lady in charge. The party was under her control, and she knew it. The decorations were always put up by her, and were always perfect. Sometimes I thought she seemed to be to hyper. She ran around the room the entire time, making sure everyone was having a good time. Sometimes she just needed to sit down and relax.
Dad on the other hand was always laid back.  Knowing my mom was always in charge, he always provided the beverages. Beer was the main beverage every year. Bud Light seemed to be the “family beer”. That would be the only beer in any of the coolers.
He always said,” If the party is ruined, you can’t blame me.” To this day, I have never blamed him for a bad party. Spontaneous things always seemed to occur.
As the party neared to an end, people began to make their way out. The room looked as if a tornado had ran right through it. Beer cans covered the entire floor, banners were tore down, and plates were everywhere. The only thing on my dads mind was, how he was getting home. He was never able to leave my parties by himself. Uncle Jim always seemed to be the one volunteering because they could chat about football on the ride home. Mom gathered all of the presents, and cleaned up the room. She was always the first one at the party, and the last one to leave.
Every year I am excited for my birthday. Not only because of the presents and the money, but also the entertainment. Something new and interesting happens every year. Hopefully as the years pass, the parties become crazier.

Ode to a G6

Cruising with style is a must these days. Having a stylish car can attracted more attention, and maybe even get you a date. Not only is style a must, but also performance. If your car is in its final days, look into a Pontiac G6. The G6 is a one of a kind, mid-size, sleek, classy, performance automobile. Making people look good, and feel good is what it does.

Just by looking at the G6 people know you mean business. The sporty body of the car makes random strangers turn their heads. The dark charcoal color is intimidating. The color of your car gives it a personality. Dark grey on a G6, indicates that backing down is your last option. Customizing a G6 will only make your car superior to others. Applying black tinted windows is a great option. They give the G6 a more sophisticated appearance. Not only does it have a high-class body, but also slick tail-lights. They are unique compared to most vehicles. A more a Euro style tail-light was included. The style gives the G6 an extra touch. The car must not only look good on the outside, but also the inside.

As soon as your butt hits the soft luxury seat, the first thing you will notice is the space on the inside of the car. It has plenty of room for everyone in the car. You may also notice the racing style dash-board. The red illuminating lights also give the G6 a admirable appeal. The six speakers on the inside make you feel as if you have surrond sound all away around you. The sound is top of the line. Music has never been herd the same. Not only a great stereo is included, but also ac, and a warm heater. Winters days will be no worries with this car. Walking outside on winter days to warm up your car, is a thing of the past. Remote start will warm the G6 up in no time. Cold weather is no problem with this car. Everything about this car is top of the line.

A reliable and smart engine is included in the G6. The pontiac G6 is usually equipped with a V6. The V6 in the G6 has 200 horse power, with 220 pounds of torque. Only seven seconds is need to reach 60mph. This is one agile car! The engine is not only fast, but smart. Automatic head-lights and wind shield wippers, are convenient. They adjust to the weather for maximum safety. The technology in the car is incomparable.

Driving to college is fun for me now. The G6 drives extremely smooth. It feels as if you are gliding on the road. The G6 is comfortable and safe. As long as you take care of it, it will take care of you. With 28mpg, I am also saving money. Seeing gas stations less is no problem with me. Creepy old truck drivers scare me anyways!

A Perfect Reason to Kill

Killing Jason is the only thing that I can focus on right now. Should I make his death a long, slow, and pain-full death, or quick and fast? Why did he have to do this!? Printing out my list was not one of his best decisions. Now the whole school knows who i've had sex with! Going back to school on Monday is the last thing I want to do right now. Killing him was my mission.

Driving back to mom's house seemed like it took forever. Impatience took over. Frustration was building inside, and it was almost time for me to unleash it upon him. Pulling into the drive-way felt great. As I approached the back door, I noticed Jason through the window. Looking at him made me sick inside. I reached my hand to the door handle, and the door wouldn't open. Why was the back door locked? If he intentionally locked me out-side, I will be so pissed! Ringing the door bell over twenty times will hopefully catch his attention. Frustration was once again building as he approached the door. The smirk on his face grossed me out. He knew what he did, and he knows whats coming. It was time to commit a little murder.

I had to make the first move. As he open the door, I leaped at him like a lion leaps at its prey. I thought I was in full control. He manage to wrestle me on my back. His hand was pressing my head against the carpet. The sides were turned and he was now in power. Giving up was my last option.Telling me to clam down was the last thing i wanted to hear him say. Why should I calm down? He gave me a perfectly good reason to be a savage. Somehow one of his fingers slipped into my mouth, and I bite down as hard as possible. His finger was now doomed. Tearing one of his fingers off didn't seem like a bad idea. I wanted to bite it right off and spit it back in his face. He managed to rip out his finger, and the next thing I knew, I had a fist coming at me. Taking cover was my first reaction. Covering my hands over my head, and curling up in a ball seemed smart. I peaked through my arms, and saw him standing and yelling. His size thirteen jordans were now pounding against my head. The pain was intense. I panicked, and began to cry. Tears of shame, and embarrassment began to pour down. I stared into his eyes and asked him why he did his crime. He just did it to be funny as usual. He apologized but my pain was too deep. I couldn't accept his offer of sorrow.

The next couple of weeks were quite awkward. We didn't speak or talk to each other. Sleeping at dad's house for a couple of weeks didn't bother me. I Just had to put up with my evil step-mother. After a couple of weeks I decided to go visit my mother. Jason was there, but things have settled at bit. I was still mad, but now I was just disappointed in him. He apologized once again, and accepted the offer. Now that I look back at what happened, I laugh. It was a stupid and childish thing of him to do, but life goes on. People move on and forget about things. Sometimes only time can heal troubles.

Party of a Lifetime

Summer is a time to let your troubles and worries go. A time to relax and get out of your hell hole town. My summer consisted of long traveling, crazy music, and memories of a life time. Manchester, Tennessee was my destination this summer. Bonnaroo was it's name.
This summer I traveled to one of the largest music festivals in history. Bonnaroo, is a five day concert that consists of some of the most popular bands today. Bonnaroo is also filled with thousands of hill billys and rednecks. This is a time where people can dress up like complete hippies. Five days of no showering really takes its toll on people. The drugs don't help much either.
While my friend Kody and I were sitting around a campfire we were approached by our neighbor. Kenneth was his name. He was a middle age african american that had obviously been at these type of concerts before. We could tell by his  2009 official Bonnaroo t-shirt. He told us that we were being lame, and offered to show us the "real" Bonnaroo. We accepted his offer and we followed. Our experience of Bonnaroo was much different than his. We weaved our way through hundreds of tents. As we neared random strangers, he would yell "Party man with party accessories!" He was selling all different types of drugs. Coke, ecstasy, acid, molly and hash were on his menu of death. It was awkward at times because parents would let their teenage kids buy them. I thought "Isn't that a terrible thing to let your children do?' I kept my mouth shut and continue to follow. After an hour of "dealing" almost 1,000 dollars were added to his billfold. It was getting very late, and it was now time for the music.
The Music experience was nothing I had ever experience before. Seven different stages always has seven different bands playing. The late night shows were always packed. Stevie Wonder preformed in front of what seemed like a million people. The crowd was a giant wave of people. You couldnt just go up to the front of the crowd. Squeezing through people, and stepping over passed out people was quit a challenge. Being rude was the last thing on my mind, as I neared the stage Jay-Z was playing on. The show I was most excited for, was about to begin.
As the countdown began people were becoming anxious. The excitement was like nothing I had ever experienced. The beat began to build and his voice was herd. Suddenly all of the lights came on and he was singing on stage. Halfway through he stopped, and pointed people out in the crowd. I was going berserk for the best rapper alive attention. He pointed out my New York Yankees t-shirt and told me to come up to the stage. As I began to walk towards the stage, the butterflies had swarmed into my stomach. "What if I trip going up the stairs?" My palms were sweating, and my body started to get warmer. The stairs were a simple climb, but now I had to approach Jay-Z. He demonstrated me as loyal New York Yankee fan like him. It was the best night of my life.
Sleeping in the tent was our only decision. The temperature always raised to what seemed like 100 degrees. As i peaked my head out the tent, Kody was all ready awake. He was very anxious to tell me something. Kenneth had apparently dropped off a huge bag of fake drugs, and told us to go and make a profit. I was very shocked at this point. His vehicle was gone. He reminded me of those guys in old western movies that rides off in the dust. The last thing we wanted to do was sell fake drugs. We threw the bag away and decided to pack up the van. This was a experience I will never forget.
